Wired USB applications
History has shown that portable media is likely to be from the consumer sector across the automotive industry's first USB applications. Once consumers can songs, videos and pictures taken to any place they go, they naturally want to access these files in the car. USB appears in the automotive sector, however, is not only the subsystems of the car as a mobile PC. It requires a widely accepted, the adoption and understanding of the serial communication mechanisms, and to adapt it to the running of the automotive environment and system-level requirements.
USB application based on the form of accessories in the car for the first time appeared in 2001. Most of these accessories is not USB, but the iPod or similar media devices to connect to the private interface of the mobile audio system. Increase consumer demand for such systems, as well as more general standard USB program used in the real car, which is the outside of the personal media.
USB used in automotive diagnostic system is a trend, this trend will continue to grow in the next five to seven years. Communication port is not a new concept, it helps service technicians, a dedicated test equipment to the diagnostic port of the vehicle Controller Area Network (CAN) bus. Car on the car automatically diagnose system (obd2) interface standard has been over 25 years. As these networks from the standard obd2 transferred to the USB, they will ultimately reduce service, maintenance and warranty cost for two reasons. The first reason is: consider the controller and physical layer transceiver, timing components and connectors, the USB-device node cost less than 1/2 of the CAN nodes. The second reason is: low-cost hardware (such as PC, PDAs, etc.) and software widely used to develop low-cost diagnostic equipment.
